Pop Up Card

Hello friends!  I promised that I would show the other Club projects from Monday night, so here is another one of them.  I am showing you many photos so that hopefully you can understand how to EASILY create this cute card.  I want to thank Jackie Wright, also a SU Demonstrator, for the inspiration for my card.  She has some fabulous ideas.  I will add her blog to my sidebar and you can go check out her stuff.  OK, back to the card…..

This card uses 2 stamp sets:  Eat Cake (images) and It’s Your Birthday (words).  The colors used are Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, and Certainly Celery.  The inside of the card measures8″x5″ and the outside card is our traditional size of 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  The card front also uses White Craft Ink for the presents and Certainly Celery Designer Series Paper.   The “trick” is on the inside of the card.  Here is a “side view” to give you the full effect.

Now just how do you do this???  Well, it is super easy with the help of the Word Window Punch!   Start by folding your Rose cardstock in half.  Use this fold line as a guide and insert the paper all the way into the punch and line the middle of the punch up with the fold line.  Punch on both sides so you have two “windows” that you punched out.   You will now have a center section that you will bend FORWARD, but leave the side sections bent BACKWARDS.  Make a firm crease where you have pulled the center section FORWARD.  Here is what it should look like now………

Once you get the hang of this nifty little fold, you have it made!  This is also a great card for children — they really like the “pop”!!!

OK……enough Stampin’ stuff……..I want to report that Allyson had another checkup today about her eye.  Although we do not see any improvement, she is doing slightly better, per the doctor’s report.  He said the “spot” causing the problem is a little bit smaller and a little less dense.  It does not FEEL any better to Allyson.  It is still very painful and very sensitive to light.  She is still doing drops every 30 minutes, but we get to back down to every hour tomorrow morning.  She is very uncomfortable and embarrassed.  She looks like she has cried for 2 weeks!   I am hoping that she will feel a little better by the weekend, but the doctor said this would probably take a few weeks of treatment.  We are hoping for minimal scarring and no loss of vision, of course!

Have a fabulous day!   🙂

A new look!

Hey gang!  What do you think of the new look??  I have always been one that likes to change purses alot, or shoes, or hair styles………so why not try a new look with the blog???  Let me know what you think.  I have not been pleased with the size of the font (on the old style) or the “readability” of it.  It just always seemed a little hard to read……..and I think I like this better.  I used my new computer skills to add the “customized header” from our recent bluebonnet photo shoot.  Are you impressed or what?    Now if I can just figure out that stuff on the side!!!  I think I need a personal assistant!!!!

Well, we have had some unexpected trips to the doctor yesterday and today with Allyson.  She has a problem with her right eye.  It is very serious and we have to go back tomorrow and possibly every day until it clears up.  We are doing drops every 30 minutes right now…….yes, you read that right!  This is worse than a nursing baby!  I have to get her up every 3 hours tonight to do drops.  But, it is worth it all if we can save her perfect vision that she’s always had.  I tell you that so you can pray for yet another medical need in our family and also so that you will understand that I have not taken the time to post more Stampin’ Up! projects for you today.  If all goes well tomorrow, I will get some on the computer then.

One thing for sure……..it is never dull at our house!

Thanks for your patience with me!!!!  And don’t forget about the class next Tuesday.  It is the Paper Topiary Class (Mother’s Day idea) and I still have a few openings.  You can also purchase the kits!  This class costs $15 and includes one FULL pack of Designer Series Paper (9.95 value).   Please come and bring a friend, too!

Love, Dawn

Enjoy Every Moment

This is one of the cards we made at our Stamper’s 10 Club Class tonight.  It features several of our Stampin’ Up! products and our Free Wheelin’ Promotion!  The background images (the tiny flowers/dots) are from our Jumbo Wheel called Daisy Dash.  This wheel is FREE with the purchase the coordinating stamp set called Enjoy Every Moment.  You will enjoy the versatility of this stamp set.  It is another set that has many different ways to “mix up” the words to say many other phrases such as “Enjoy Life” or “Enjoy the little things”…….but it also comes with the basic words “thank you”.  I would like you to pay special attention to the ribbon on the card, too.  I taught my class a simple little technique for tying a bow onto a card.  I will call this the One Hole Bow.  I have taken step-by-step photos and will attempt to tell you how to do this.  You will like it because it secures the bow to the card.  This ribbon is NOT just wrapped around the card.  Follow these steps to try the One Hole Bow Technique

  First, stamp your card.

Second, fold back the flap, and punch one small hole.

Third, wrap ribbon around the front of the card.

Pull both ends through the hole going from back to front.

Pull snuggly and then make sure one end of ribbon is on the right, one on the left.

Tie one knot to secure the ribbon.

I hope this makes sense.  Try it and let me know what you think!

We did several other projects tonight, but I will have to share more another night!   And just a reminder, enjoy every moment………..you never know what tomorrow will bring!  ENJOY!

Giant Caterpillar!

Good morning!  We had such a busy weekend that I really don’t know where to start!  I won’t bore you all the scoop, nor do I have time to post it all, but maybe I can give you “small glimpses” here and there.  I have stamped some this weekend in preparation for my Stamper’s 10 Club Class tonight, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise for my group.  I will post late tonight and show you the projects we are going to make.  Sorry to keep you waiting…….but this is only fair to the group!

Setting Him Free!Setting him free!

So, I just have to show you this giant caterpillar that Charles stopped and rescued.  We were coming down our street yesterday on the way home from church and he abruptly stopped the car……….this usually means there is FREE FIRE WOOD that he has spotted and wants to load up in the truck 🙂  No joke, so we were moaning a little about what he was getting now, and we knew there was no free firewood on OUR street……….but it was a very large, very fuzzy, and very pretty caterpillar.  It had red stripes on it and was very plump!  We took photos after Sarah “loved” on it for awhile………and then set it free it our bushes.  Of course we are hoping he will turn into a gorgeous butterfly in our yard someday!  So, just a little excitement that brighted our day, especially Sarah…….she has a thing for nature!

I have to tell you that we had the most glorious night at church last night!  We had a community wide Hymn Sing at our church.  We had approximately 300 voices in our choir (from area churches) and about 60 in the orchestra.  We sang “Waco’s Top 10 Hymns” as voted on by area churches.  It was truly one of the most worshipful experieces that I have EVER had in my life.  Many were moved to tears as we thought about the words, the authors who penned them, and their meanings to us personally.  We were given a brief  one-two minute introduction to each hymn and how it came to be…….and then we had guest conductors from the area churches leading the various songs.  One of the men who spoke said that we will rarely remember a sermon (sorry preachers!), but many of us will sing hymns forever.  How true!  Can you quote sermons, or speeches, or mere words exactly as they were spoken?  Not very often……..  But I bet you know the lyrics to many, many songs.  This is so true with our teenagers, too, and that is why I try to make sure they are listening to the right kind of music!  Something about music just gets to the soul and stays there!

So, in case you were wondering about the Top 10????  Here is the list:

#1 Amazing Grace

#2 How Great Thou Art

#3  It Is Well (With My Soul)

#4  Because He Lives

#5  Victory in Jesus

#6  Great Is Thy Faithfulness

#7  The Old Rugged Cross

#8  Holy, Holy, Holy

#9  In the Garden

#10  Blessed Assurance

I really gotta go for now………I wrote way too much as it is!  Have a great day!  More tomorrow!

What a great class!

WHEW!  We had a very fun group of ladies for the Tart and Tangy class, but I must confess that I am exhausted and ready for a calmer sort of day today!  Everyone agreed that this class goes down as an all-time favorite!   These three little notepads were the door prizes at the class — congratulations to Deeleane, Donna, and Linda for winning them!  These were purchased at Michael’s from the “dollar deals” and embellished with Designer Series Papers and a stamped image.  Recipe details are at the end of this post.

My next class is the Mother’s Day Topiary Class — previously posted on April 8th.   I have room for 15 ladies, and space is beginning to fill up.  Please RSVP if you plan to attend.  This is a really nice gift item and is very unique!

I will give details next week, but the NAME FRAMES class is coming back (due to popular demand!)  Mark your calendar for Monday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m.  Photos coming soon.  Price will be $15.   I will also be doing a card class in May — unsure of the date just yet.

One more precious little photo that I wanted to show you guys……..this is Malachi on “Smiley the Snail”.  My dad made this “rocking horse” when my girls were little.  It is solid wood and made with the most excellent craftmanship ever!  I wish you could see the whole thing, but I had to post the photo with the cutest smile ever!  I have enjoyed sharing it with the foster babies……….so Dad, hope you are reading my blog!  Malachi loves your snail!

Supplies used for the notepads:  Lovely Labels (page 152, $12.95); Cardstock:  Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Old Olive, Purely Pomegranate, Apricot Appeal;  Ink:  Groovy Guava, Tempting Turqoise, Regal Rose(stamped off once); Punches:  1 1/4″, 1 3/8″ circles and Scallop Circle; Ribbons:  Double Stitched Ribbon in Groovy Guava and Wild Wasabi, Grosgrain Tempting Turquoise;  Designer Series Paper East Coast Prep (pad #3) and the other 2 are retired but they were called Petals and Paisleys and Darling Doodles.

Have a great weekend!!!  It’s Friday!!!!

Gift Tags in a Tin

Hello everyone!  I don’t have alot for today, but wanted to show you something that I made this past Christmas for a Demonstrator Party that I hosted.  I took a DVD tin and decorated it with Designer Series Paper.  This particular paper is now retired, but there are many new patterns to choose from.  I filled it with gift tags in those same colors and used various holiday images.  This was a big hit at the party………..and I am considering it for a class this summer.  Why not get ahead for the holidays??? Now that would be a great idea!  Or, we could make a “generic” gift tin and fill it with tags for different occasions all through the year.  Let me know what you think of this idea!   Just another thought for these cute metal tins!

Update on Charles:  He is physically healing more and more each day.  He is feeling OK, but he is back on the same two heart medicines that he was on prior to surgery.    He still has the heart flutters and we still have doubts about the success of the surgery.  However, we are hopeful!  Keep on praying!  We really don’t want to have to do this all over………

Gotta get busy!  The Tart and Tangy Class is tonight!  Have a great day!

My Masculine Thank You Card

Well, I got busy on writing all those thank you cards and realized that I did not have anything that could be sent to a man.  I had a few men that came to see us in the hospital that are very special to Charles and I, so I decided that they deserved a much more “manly” looking card.  It was a little bit challenging for me, so I struggled.  I wanted to add bows and brads, and all that jazz!  So, I came up with the little acorn image from Just Celebrate.  This set is in our Spring Occasions Catalog.  It is available until May 31.  It has 8 images and 8 greetings.  Notice the Chocolate Twill Ribbon???  It is also in the Occasions Catalog.  It comes in Old Olive, too.  I think it added just the right “manly feel” to the card without being frilly……..The card on the right was just a quick one using another image in that set.  Can you tell that I didn’t stay focused on the masculine cards for too long???  I had to get busy on the flowers again!

I also worked really hard to get some other things put on my “sidebar” of this blog today.  I am not doing so well, so bear with me.  I will figure it all out and you will see this site “evolve” over time.  If I would swallow my pride and ask my teenage daughters to help me, they would probably have it done in no time flat.  However, I really do want to learn so I have done some reading and researching and I think I can do it!  Just not today.  I gotta get my house ready for my Tart and Tangy Class and make some yummy snacks!    If you have signed up for this class, you should have gotten a confirmation e-mail from me on Monday with more details.  If you DID NOT get that e-mail, you need to check with me.  This class is full, with a waiting list, and I have sold several kits to others.  Thank you for making my classes so successful!!!!

Do you have requests for something you would like to see me do in a class???  I am open to suggestions……..just let me know!  Have a great day!

Thank You Cards

Hello friends!  Yesterday I was subbing in the “art class” at our high school.  So, how appropriate for me to work on the “art” that I love to do…….stamping!  I was able to work on several projects throughout the day, but my most pressing need was to make a bunch of Thank You Cards.   I made 30 (10 each of these 3 designs) so that I could begin writing thank you notes to all of the people who recently helped me during Charles’ surgery.  We received 4 different meals this weekend (with fabulous desserts, might I add) and there were so many friends who visited and helped with my kids.  I am so thankful for each little thing done to help us.  I have alot of writing to do, but I kept a detailed list and I am determined to send a personal note to each of them.  Do you need to say “thanks” to someone in a special way?  Send a card today!  It will mean so much to them.    I must also tell you that these cards were NOT my original designs.  Most of you know that I rarely take the time to “dream up” something new.  I just “case” something that I saw on the internet.  These are almost identical to some that I printed out a month or so ago by another demonstrator.  I love her style!

I also forgot to tell you that Sarah had her piano recital on Sunday afternoon.  She did very well!  She played one song by herself and played a duet with her piano teacher.

Thanks for keeping up with my blog………and thanks for all the positive feedback.  I hope to learn how to do more with this thing someday soon………..maybe summer!  Who knows???   Charles went to work yesterday and lasted all day!  He still has the “fluttering heart” but we are still hopeful that things will improve.  That’s all for now!

“Mean Mommy Award”

Have you ever gotten the “Mean Mommy Award”???  If you are a mom, you know what I am talking about!  Well, I got it today.  You won’t believe what I did to earn it!  I made my kids take more pictures in the bluebonnets!  I tricked them on the way home from church (while they had on their pretty clothes) and told them we were taking a little detour on the way home……….Yes, I threatened to take away every cellular device and television in the house for one whole week if they didn’t co-operate.  I had to use my “mean mommy voice” and everything!  BUT, it worked!  I got alot more photos……..including this one 🙂   I guess by now you think I deserved that award……..but that’s OK, just wait ’til you see my scrapbook pages!

So, what have you done to get the “Mean Mommy Award”???  I really need some sympathy here!

Today’s Stampin’ Up! project is a Candy Bar Slider.   The first photo shows the candy bar inside the holder and the second photo shows the candy bar “sliding” out of the holder when you pull on the bow.  The ribbon is wrapped ALL THE WAY around the candy bar to create the sliding motion.  This one was made for a hostess gift, but I also gave one to a friend for her birthday and stamped “Celebrate” at the bottom.  These little sliders look hard, but they are really quite easy……..they just look impressive, without all the fuss.  You can change the size of your cardstock, depending on the size of the candy bar.  If you need the details, make sure you let me know.  There are several “slider” variations that you can check out on Split Coast Stampers.   I made several of these for Valentine’s Day and used “mini” candy bars.  Each slider only took 1/4 sheet of cardstock, so they were super inexpensive.  These make really cute gifts!

Supplies Used:  Stamps:  Buds Basics, Fundamental Phrases; Cardstock:  Purely Pomegranate; Ink:  Purely Pomegranate, White Craft Ink; Designer Series Paper:  So Saffron Prints; Ribbon:  Purely Pomegranate Double Stitched;  Accessories:  Sticky Strip, Dimensionals.

Charles is slowly feeling a little bit stronger.  Key word there is “SLOWLY”.   He wants to snap back much faster than his body is allowing!  Thank you for all of your well-wishes.
